Unlock PSE Battery Incentives with MAD Energy NW

Power backup and savings just got easier for Puget Sound Energy customers. Through PSE’s Flex Batteries program and enhanced incentive pathways, homeowners can significantly reduce the cost of adding battery storage while earning ongoing benefits for participating. MAD Energy NW is one of only a limited number of PSE-preferred installers in Washington, allowing qualified customers to access incentives that are not available through non-approved installers.

How PSE Battery Incentives Work

PSE’s battery incentives are designed to support both grid reliability and customer resilience by enrolling qualifying home battery systems in its Flex program. Incentives vary based on battery size, household eligibility, and service reliability in your area.

Standard Flex Batteries Incentives (Available to Most PSE Customers)

When a qualifying battery system is installed and enrolled in PSE’s Flex Batteries program, homeowners may receive the following:

  • An upfront incentive, typically ranging from $750 to $1,000 per battery, depending on total battery storage capacity
  • An annual participation credit of up to $500 per year per battery, based on battery performance and participation

These incentives are available to most PSE customers and can be combined with enhanced incentives, subject to additional eligibility requirements.

During Flex events, PSE may temporarily draw a portion of stored energy from enrolled batteries during periods of high grid demand. This process is automatic and does not require homeowner action.

What’s the Catch? Why PSE Pays for Home Batteries

It’s common for homeowners to ask why PSE would offer incentives that sound almost too good to be true. The answer comes down to grid reliability and shared risk.

During major storms, extreme heat, or high-demand events, the electrical grid is under stress. Brownouts, rolling outages, and full blackouts don’t just disrupt homeowners; they also create operational challenges for utilities. Sudden demand spikes and repeated power interruptions can damage infrastructure, shorten equipment lifespan, and increase the risk of appliance damage inside homes.

Home battery systems enrolled in the Flex Batteries program help reduce that strain. During Flex events, PSE can briefly draw a small portion of stored energy from participating batteries to stabilize the grid. This reduces the likelihood of emergency outages and helps prevent sudden load imbalances that can affect entire neighborhoods.

From a homeowner’s perspective, the benefit is twofold. Battery systems provide emergency backup power during outages, and incentive participation helps offset installation costs. From PSE’s perspective, distributed batteries act as a network of support resources that reduce grid stress without requiring new power plants or large-scale infrastructure upgrades.

That shared benefit is why incentives exist. PSE isn’t paying customers simply to install batteries; it’s investing in grid stability while helping homeowners protect against outages, voltage fluctuations, and potential appliance damage caused by unstable power conditions.

Enhanced Battery Incentives for Qualifying Customers

In addition to standard Flex incentives, PSE offers enhanced upfront battery incentives for customers who meet specific qualifications. These incentives are applied as upfront discounts and can significantly reduce battery installation costs.

Incentive A – Up to $10,000

This incentive may be available to PSE customers who meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • Enrollment in a PSE reduced billing or bill discount program
  • Use of registered medical devices that require reliable power
  • Landlords with tenants who meet the qualifying requirements

For eligible customers, this incentive is applied directly toward battery equipment and installation costs.

Incentive B – Up to $5,000

This incentive may be available to customers who experience frequent power outages, typically 12 or more outages per year. Short or momentary outages may not qualify, but customers in areas with recurring service interruptions may be eligible.

This incentive is also applied as an upfront cost reduction.

Important:
Customers pursuing Incentive A or Incentive B must work with a PSE-preferred installer. MAD Energy NW is one of only a few installers in Washington approved to complete battery installations under these enhanced incentive programs.

Battery Compatibility and Installation Timing

Some enhanced incentives require specific battery models approved by PSE. If a battery is installed before final approval for enhanced incentives, customers may still enroll in the standard Flex Batteries program.

MAD Energy NW is prepared to offer battery solutions compatible with most existing solar systems, helping expand eligibility for enhanced incentives as additional battery models are approved.
